Welcome! My name is Julie Bull and I have been questioning expectations and forging new terrain since I was a two-year-old philosopher. After earning my PhD in 2019, I promptly ran away from academia to explore my creative curiosities. Now a recovering academic turned artist, I am still passionate about the human experience, how we choose to express it, and how we show up ethically in our lives.
Based on Epekwitk (Prince Edward Island), Canada, I work with people and organizations around the world who want to just suck less as a human being.
I am a poly-disciplinary poet, writer, spoken-word enthusiast, visual artist, researcher, ethicist, and educator who stirs things up with some unlikely integrations, influences, and imagination. My journey from the head to the he(art) has been a process and practice of healing through unraveling and re-weaving. As a queer, non-binary human from NunatuKavut, my life and work explore the complexities of the liminal space.
I’m not a fan of getting my picture taken and sometimes I get headshots that mostly look like me, which includes a dash of awkward.
I have a longstanding interest in and commitment to advancing the ethical and responsible conduct of research with Indigenous Peoples in Canada. As a philosopher with a specialization in ethics and policy, I consult and collaborate with communities, researchers, Research Ethics Boards (REBs), educators, and policy makers to identify and implement emerging, promising, and wise practices in research ethics and engagement with Indigenous Peoples. After nearly 20 years of living predominately from and in intellectual spaces, I began the journey toward heart-centred living. That's when I really understood that research ethics are not separate from how-you-live-your-life ethics.
Today, I spend a lot of time mucking around with materials and learning how to process and express from my he(art).
